Cranbrook School
Boarding students at Cranbrook

Welcome to Boarding

Our top priority is that your children are happy, healthy and well cared for – allowing them to achieve their full potential academically, socially and physically. We are also careful to integrate our boarders with their day-student counterparts, ensuring that they feel part of the Cranbrook community from day one.

When your child joins the school, he or she will be in the care of a resident Head of House, overseen by the Director of Boarding, assisted by tutors and matrons. The House team monitor all aspects of a student’s progress throughout their career and will liaise with you closely during this time. Boarders benefit from supervised homework time as well as increased access to the School’s resources out of class hours including SEN support.

Your child’s welfare is of paramount importance and good food is certainly part of that process. We have an excellent in house catering team who provide three meals a day in the School dining hall. Menus are sent to parents via the boarders bulletin each week, which also includes an update of the week’s events in boarding.

Each House has a unique feel and established traditions, of which the boarders feel extremely proud. Inter-House competitions are enjoyable but ultimately hard-fought affairs which reflect the passion of the boarders. We, of course, offer excellent facilities maintained and enhanced by the in-house estates team.

It is difficult to do justice to Cranbrook boarding life on a website –  there is no substitute for coming to have a look around, and we look forward to welcoming you should you wish to book a tour.

Life for Cranbrook’s boarders is busy to say the least! Every student obviously has the opportunity to enjoy moments of relaxation or reflection but in the main they join together to get the very best out of their communal experience.

Weekends are especially full for our boarders. Many participate in the school’s sports programmes on Saturday mornings or afternoons. On Sundays the school runs a series of staffed excursions to nearby attractions such as ice skating, cinemas, laserquest, mountain-biking, bowling, theme parks and watersports.

Boarders can also use many of the school’s sports facilities during weekends, enjoy their house’s collection of indoor games (computer and traditional), or simply chill out with a DVD movie night in their comfy communal areas. Additionally, as all houses are within a few minutes’ walk of Cranbrook, students are free to sign out and visit the town.

Exeats are very flexible and  can be taken from Friday evenings or Saturday returning Sunday evening dependent upon the student’s commitments in school.
