Boarding Admissions


Cranbrook School will be offering 52 boarding places for Year 9 entry in September 2022: 34 boys and 18 girls boarding places.

Applications for entry in September 2022 are now open until the 1 November 2021, please complete the Application Form via https://forms.office.com/r/eA0gBr42pt.

Entrance Exam Date

Saturday 20 November 2021 (exact arrangements will be emailed to registered candidates in early November)

Boarding Suitability Interview Dates

Friday 19 November 2021 for overseas candidates

Friday 26 November 2021 for UK candidates



Students who wish to make an In-Year Application for a boarding place should contact the Registrar at Cranbrook School to check on availability of a place.

Testing & Interview

As Cranbrook School is a selective Grammar School, all students have to undergo testing.  We will liaise with you to make arrangements for testing to take place.

If you wish to apply for a Year 9 boarding place, your child will be assessed using the Cranbrook School Entrance Exam, further information on which can be requested from the Registrar.

Boarding candidates also have to undergo a Boarding Suitability Interview.

Outcome of Application

You will be advised on the outcome of your Application within 15 school days of the test result being known.  You will be offered a place if:

  • Your child meets with our entry requirements
  • A place is available
  • No other child has a higher priority for the place

As one of the country’s few State Boarding Schools, the education provided by Cranbrook School is free to day students and boarders alike. The only charges levied by the Governors go towards boarders’ accommodation and live-in costs – far lower than Independent Sector fees.

Cranbrook School welcomes boarding applications from Armed Forces families who are in receipt of Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA).  Qualifying for CEA means that you will only pay 8% of the annual boarding fee which is just £384 per term (£1,152 per annum) for the 2021 academic year.

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum this am… I saw ACTUAL ROMAN PILLARS coming into Cranbrook on a ute for the Apple Fayre! Town closed but forum well and truly open. Brilliant. See you in Octogas later @SchoolCranbrook apple juice stall.
