Application Criteria
As a State-funded grammar school for boys and girls, we cater for the top 20 -25% of the academic ability range and places are always oversubscribed. Uniquely, Cranbrook School has 3 entry points:
- Year 7 day only entry is via the Kent 11+ Test (otherwise known as the Kent PESE Test)
- Year 9 candidates (for day and boarding students) take the Year 9 Cranbrook Entrance Exam – please see Year 9 admissions page for further details
- Sixth Form entry (for day and boarding students) is subject to availability and the attainment of our minimum entry requirements – please see the Sixth Form admissions page for further details.
All applicants for Cranbrook School (day and boarding) must hold either a UK or Irish passport, or have the Right of Abode in the UK. Boarding applicants may live anywhere in the UK or overseas. Day applicants may also apply from anywhere in the UK or overseas however priority is given to applicants who reside in the Priority Area. Please note that we are unable to accept applications for a day place if living overseas.
PRIORITY AREA:
The Priority Area is defined as follows:
a. The civil parishes of Cranbrook and Sissinghurst, Goudhurst, Staplehurst, Frittenden, Benenden, Sandhurst and Hawkhurst as defined by civil parish boundaries.
b. Any other property which is not within the civil parish boundaries as outlined above, but is within 8.5 kilometres (5.28166 miles) of the school by straight line.
