The Drama Department is at the heart of creative life at Cranbrook School, based in the vibrant Performing Arts Centre. Central to our drama activities is The Queen’s Hall Theatre, a dedicated space that hosts an array of curricular, co-curricular and external performances throughout the year.

A Stage for Everyone

At Cranbrook, there are countless opportunities for students to take to the stage. Each year, we hold a Whole School Production, alternating between a play and a musical, as well as a Junior Production. These performances are open to all students, encouraging participation and collaboration across year groups. Additionally, GCSE and A Level drama students present their exam pieces to a public audience, offering further opportunities to perform and share their work.

Drama Clubs & Enrichment

For younger students, we run two Junior Drama Clubs:

• One for Years 7, 8, and 9, focusing on foundational skills and creative exploration
• Another for Years 9, 10, and 11, covering more advanced content and techniques

These clubs provide an excellent opportunity for students to build their confidence, develop acting skills and enjoy the camaraderie of working as a team.

LCM Examinations

Students also have the chance to take London College of Music (LCM) examinations within the Drama Department. Lessons are taught by a visiting LCM specialist on a peripatetic basis, enabling students to hone their performance skills and achieve recognised qualifications.

Behind the Scenes

The Queen’s Hall Theatre is managed by our dedicated Theatre Manager, with invaluable support from the school’s student-led technical team. This team receives professional training in areas such as lighting, sound, and stage management. They play a key role in ensuring the success of internal and external performances, gaining hands-on experience and technical expertise.
