Horsley House

Horsley takes its name from Sir Victor Alexander Haden Horsley (1857-1916), an eminent neuroscientist and a pioneer of neurological surgery, who was educated at Cranbrook School.

Born into privilege, Horsley went on to champion many causes, dedicating himself to improving the quality of life for others.  In particular, he was a supporter of women’s suffrage, medical reform, and free health care.

Fittingly, therefore, Horsley is a warm, welcoming and inclusive House.  Its members are encouraged to play their part and to make their own individual contribution to the life of the Horsley House community.

The year thirteen captains and the senior team help with the daily House routines, and their efforts are invaluable.

The House staff are dedicated and highly experienced in their roles as tutors, and they consistently work hard to provide all the students in their care with the very best of academic and pastoral guidance.

Victor Horsley was known for his kindness, humility and generous spirit.  He was referred to as ‘the helper of all’.  In Horsley House, as members of our own caring community, we all aspire to those same characteristics.

Partnered with Horsley, Crowden Boarding House provides a welcoming and supportive environment where students develop independence and resilience. With structured academic support, pastoral guidance and a rich programme of evening and weekend activities, Crowden ensures boarders make the most of school life.
