We admit 30 boys and girls as day students to Year 7. There are no boarding places available in Year 7 or 8.
We admit 162 boys and girls each year at Year 9 (13+ age group), including 52 boarders. Further entry is also possible at Sixth Form – typically 16 additional day students and a (very) few boarding students.
As a State-funded grammar school for boys and girls, we cater for the top 20 -25% of the academic ability range and places are always oversubscribed. Year 7 entry is via the Kent 11+ exam. Year 9 candidates take a Verbal Reasoning Test set by NFER and the school also sets supplementary papers in Mathematics and English. Sixth Form entry (for day students and boarders alike) is subject to availability and the attainment of a minimum of 40 points at GCSE, or equivalent. (A* = 8.5, A = 7, B = 5.5, C = 4, D = 3) – please refer to the Admissions Policies for the additional entry requirements.
All applicants for Cranbrook School must hold either a UK or an EU passport, or have the right of abode in the UK. Boarding applicants may live anywhere in the UK or overseas. Day applicants may also apply from anywhere in the UK or overseas but in recent years the oversubscription criteria (NB: PREFERRED AREA) have always had to be applied. Details of these criteria are outlined in greater detail within the Day Admission Policy 2017 document which can be found on the Introduction Page.
The geographical area is defined as follows:
a. The civil parishes of Cranbrook, Goudhurst, Staplehurst, Frittenden, Benenden, Sandhurst and Hawkhurst as defined by civil parish boundaries.
b. Any other property which is not within the civil parish boundaries as outlined above, but is within 8.5 kilometres of the school by straight line.
