Year 7 and 8 Latin Tournament

The Classics Department was proud to take four of its best Year 7 and 8 students to compete with other local schools in the inaugural “Latin Tournament” hosted in the stunning surroundings of Battle Abbey School. The team consisted of two Year 7 students, Daniella Atwood and Joanna Suewing, and two Year 8 students, Oliver Russell and Edward Scobbie.

The students were asked to complete numerous challenges such as vocabulary quizzes, vocabulary relay races, a quiz on chariot racing, team translation challenges, private comprehension activities and a poster-making competition on the theme of the Roman Underworld – all under challenging time constraints.

Whilst the trophy for the main tournament slipped from our grasp this year, the Cranbrook School team still came away with first prize in the poster competition. The judges were particularly impressed by Edward’s 3D grass effect.

The students had worked exceptionally hard to prepare for the tournament, and their team effort and positive attitude was commented on by other staff at the event. They held their own against some very strong competition and were outstanding representatives for the school.
