Cranbrook School

End of Season Hockey Report

The U12’s have been full of enthusiasm and although they have only played 3 matches this term they have demonstrated good potential and kept their heads up.  With many beginners as well as a few who play outside school at  clubs they have enjoyed their hockey experience.  The Sellers Cup competition where they joined with the U13’s really showed how far many of them had come as individuals and as team players.

The U13’s with very few girls in the year have played 2 matches and a tournament where they combined with Year 7.  All the fixtures have been tough but despite this they have always played their best.  Special mention to Polly Brownlow who has Captained the U13 side and also played every Saturday for the U14A.  She has also enjoyed success outside of school and has been selected for the Kent squad this year.

It was a very good season! It started off very strongly with us winning our first three games! A very well done to Izzy Wright, our goalie, who has saved many goals and really helped our team. I think we got much better from the start of the season and even though we didn’t win as many matches at the end, our skills have improved. We have met new people playing hockey and although it was hard at the start because we didn’t really know each other, now we are a team and I am very excited to see what next season has in store for us! There were some very good goals scored by our attack. By the end we were very good at passing out to the wing and not down the middle, however, I think communication is still something we need to get the hang of!

This was a really good first season together and I have loved playing with everyone.  We have really stepped up as a team and are now used to how each other play and that was definitely something that we struggled with at the start of the season, especially with some of the harder games. For me, player of the season was Tab Webster who was playing very well very single game and never missed one training session or match and always gave everything in every game playing whichever position she was asked to play from full-back , centre-half to centre-forward she always made the most out of each position and adapted well. Thank you to Matt for taking us this season and hopefully he will join us again next year!

This hockey season we won one match, lost three and drew two. Despite not actually winning very many matches, it was a great season and we had a lot of fun. Special thank you to Matt, our coach and to Amber, our goalie. (Written by Grace Parsley)

All in all we have had an excellent season of hockey, starting off with a win against Eastbourne College. Although some of our other matches have been less successful, we’ve had some stand out games such as our 6-0 win against St John’s. Even though our team has not dramatically changed since last year, the development in all of the players has been amazing.  We have definitely progressed throughout the season and have thoroughly enjoyed playing hockey together again.

We would like to make a specific mention of our fantastic goalie, Kate Mason as she has always been a reliable player and has been made some incredible saves throughout the season. As a team, we have greatly improved our attacking formations and have also developed our defending skills.

A big thank you definitely goes to our two amazing coaches, Matt and Mrs Burnett. They were so supportive and have given up a lot of their time to ensure that we have been as successful as possible.

Thank you to everyone in the team for making it a very special last season together.

1st Team

The 1st team season got off to a great start with our pre-season in Portugal where the team showed their potential with a 2-2 draw and a 3-1 win against a strong local team.

This season we have had many highlight games including our 3-1 win against Mayfield, 2-0 win against Kent College and a 5-0 win against Duke of York’s Royal Military School where we played some outstanding hockey with great tackles, passes and goals.

Although we have had some more challenging games like our matches against Sevenoaks and Kings, the way the girls kept fighting hard in every match and never gave up was great to see.

Special mentions go to Constance for winning Players player for her solid tackles, and commitment, Elysia who won MVP for her outstanding defence and Elsie for achieving MIP for her amazing improvement this season.

We would all like to say a massive thank you to Mrs Coleman, Matt and Craig for everything they have done for us. We couldn’t have a achieved a great season without you.

1st team colours are awarded to the Year 13 who have played throughout their school career with passion, commitment and an increasing high level of performance, which has been appreciated by all that have coached them.
