Busy Half Term for Equestrian Team

Members of the Cranbrook Equestrian team were busy competing over half term.  Georgie Estall (HG) started the week off competing in the South East England Arena Eventing Qualifier in East Sussex.  This class was an Open class which means professional and novice riders compete against one another.  Also, there is no age restriction, so both adults and juniors may compete, consequently the class was peppered with riders who regularly qualify for the likes of Badminton and Burghley.  Georgie rode the round of her life and managed to win the competition and was the only junior rider to be placed in that class.  She now goes on to compete in the Championship class at Pyecoombe this coming weekend and will be joined by Hannah Williams (HG) who qualified earlier in the month when she placed 4th with a lovely round in gale force winds against an equally strong field.  Very well done to both girls.

There was also a County Championship Show Jumping Qualifier which took place over half term.  Ewan Barbour (HB) rode his amazing little horse Wiz in an incredible round in the 80cm class and was just beaten into 2nd place by a mere .07 seconds which sadly meant he didn’t qualify for the championship.  We then had a team of 3 riders, Charlie Hilton (HG), Emily Freeman (BL) and Georgie Estall (HG), competing in the 90cm class – all three girls put in lovely double clear rounds and secured 1st place and a qualified for the Championships later this year.

A special thank you to Anna Hilton, Charlie’s mum, a professional rider and trainer, who very kindly warmed the girls up before their contest last week – her input is very much appreciated.  Thanks also to Georgie who won a voucher for Petley Equestrian Centre – she is donating this to the team to pay for arena hire for a training session.  And last, but not least, thank you to all our parents who go to great effort and expense to get the riders to the various competitions and Championships around the country.
