Webster Girls

‘Be All You Can’

Webster House is named after the artist Thomas Webster, who was part of the 19th century Cranbrook Colony, living and painting in Cranbrook. Webster Girls is the largest day house and is made up of girls primarily living in the Cranbrook / Sissinghurst area and it prides itself on its friendly and social outlook.  Our house motto is ‘Be All You Can’ and the girls are encouraged to live up to this, both in school and in their lives outside of the classroom.  The older girls mentor the younger members of the house and there is a very caring and sharing ethos in the house. The girls take part in all the house sport events and have become rather competitive over the last few years! Socially Webster Girls have a very busy time. In the autumn term we organise a Kino trip where the girls have the cinema to themselves for the evening for a girly night of film fun.  This is held early in the autumn term and is a great way to invigorate house spirit at the start of the new school year.  We also organise a Webster Girls v Webster Boys Quiz and Bake off which has proved very popular – and competitive – amongst the students. This is followed by ice skating at Somerset House in London and the Webster Christmas party. In the spring term we hold joint Webster Girls and Webster Boys curry evenings for 6th form and juniors at a local curry house. On a weekly basis, during tutor time, the girls enjoying sharing cakes they have baked.

For parents a newsletter is produced twice a term to keep them up-to-date with house news and activities and this is emailed to all Webster Girls’ parents directly.

Life in the House

Webster Girls is a busy and active house!  Webster Girls have been winners of the inter-house sports cup in the past; there is usually a lot of sporting talent in the house, but more importantly there is always much enthusiasm.  The house noticeboard, situated in the house base in the library, is packed with photographs of activities and events that Webster Girls have taken part in.  The girls meet in their house base every day at 10:15am when the House Captain reads the daily notices, the tutors check for attendance and correct uniform and important messages are relayed.  On Mondays, there is always a house assembly which may be taken by the students or by a Webster tutor.

Birthdays are always celebrated in the house and each birthday girl receives a card.  The House Council meets on a regular basis and students are able to discuss their thoughts on the house and feedback to their year groups.  Regular whole house social events include the Kino cinema trip, ice skating in London, the Christmas party and a Lent fund raising event.  Often, the girls organise events in their year groups, such as the Year 13 leaver’s event and Year 9 cake festival!  Each year, a house hoodie or sweatshirt is organised by the 6th form for the students to buy and is worn with pride at house events.
