We have six single-sex day Houses at Cranbrook, each made up of 80-90 students across the 13 to 18-year-old age range. (Years 9 to 13 in Curriculum terms):
Historically, students have been allocated to their House according to the geographical area in which they live. In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to allocate in this way and give each of the Houses an even number of students, resulting in some students being given alternative allocations. Therefore, it has been decided to allocate students to Houses randomly, which will enable us to ensure the division is proportional and fair for all incoming students, whilst still maintaining the even distribution of students into girls’ and boys’ Houses.
Whilst students will no longer be placed according to geography, we are mindful of house allegiance through siblings being instrumental in fostering both identity and community spirit. We will endeavour to place students in the same house as older siblings with an established affiliation.
