Webster Girls

Webster Girls is the largest day house and is made up of girls primarily living in the Cranbrook/Sissinghurst area.  Many of our pupils have parents who also work locally, which gives Webster a particularly intimate feel. Webster parents are especially supportive of house activities and are active in raising money for the Lenten Appeal. We are a very friendly house and enjoy socialising and organising events.

Our first event of the new school year will be a themed film night at the Kino at Hawkhurst on Monday 9th November.  Webster Girls will have exclusive use of the Kino for this evening for a showing of a film of their choice - in previous years the theme has been 'sleepover' and everyone attended in pyjamas and last year it was 'St Trinians' complete with costumes!

The House Play, organised jointly with Webster Boys, will be  on Friday 25th November and the Christmas Dinner and Disco will be held on  Saturday 3rd December. Ice Skating at Somerset House was great fun last year and will take place again towards the end of the Autumn term.  In March we hold our big charity fund raising event, the Webster Lenten Appeal Dinner, organised jointly with Webster Boys.

Webster Girls have been winners of the Inter-House Sports Cup for two years in a row and were joint winners with Horsley Girls last year. I feel sure we can win outright again this year as we have much sporting talent and, more importantly, enthusiasm in the house. There are many house sporting events to attend and support - the house cross country competition takes place on 18th October and house hockey on 10th December. House netball, sports day, tennis, rounders and swimming events will take place during spring and summer terms.
Parents are kept in touch with activities and news from the house via the Webster Girls Newsletter which is produced every half term and emailed direct to parents.  It is also available as a download from this page.

Webster Girls House Review 2010
Summary and Conclusion

Webster Girls is in good heart.  The team of tutors is strong and ably led by Christine Newman.  The girls like the new regime and appreciate the fact that changes have been gradually introduced rather than “new broom”.  They like their staff team and see Christine as a good and motivational leader.  Moving the House meeting area to the library has been a positive move, and the introduction of the House Council has raised the student voice and is popular with the girls.  House spirit may be slightly low at the moment, but the senior girls and Christine have many ideas on how to build on what is already a strong base.  The tutorial team is strong and the girls are well looked after both pastorally and academically.

Issues for development:
• Build on the success of the House Council to increase the Student Voice within the House
• Continue to improve House assemblies by introducing the use the audio-visual aids now available in the library, and consider using students to give more assemblies.  This will add variety as well as giving the girls a chance to gain experience of public speaking.
• Ensure the seniors properly explain what is available for new pupils to get involved in, such as the House Play.
• Possibly review the format of the Webster Evening?
• Continue to work to raise House spirit via team work and leadership.  More inter-year cooperation would be good.  Build on the buddy system between seniors and junior tutor groups?  And inter-year quizzes?
