The Queen's Hall
auditoriumQueen’s Hall Theatre
The Queen’s Hall was first opened in 1976; the original vision for the building was to provide a local community theatre which was funded by the school, by the Education Authority and by Public subscription.  The subsequent refurbishment twenty years later in 1996 was financed by a generous grant from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and from the Lottery Agency, and by the Governors of the School, to capitalise upon the venue’s ability to attract visiting Arts Companies of a high calibre.  Today it is a superb facility, seating a maximum of 350, which many professional theatre companies would be thrilled to call home. The performance space is very flexible with adaptable seating allowing performances in the round, as well as on stage within the traditional proscenium arch.   The building is well equipped with state of the art technical equipment, and includes PowerPoint facilities, video and DVD editing facilities, large retractable screen, comprehensive lighting rig, new sound system and a digital film projector.  There are two good sized dressing rooms and a drama room which doubles as an extra large dressing/band room when required.

The theatre is used extensively by the school throughout the year, for a very full programme of House Plays and music concerts, and the annual summer production.  It is also used for assemblies, and for visiting guest speakers or teachers to use when DVD or PowerPoint is required for addressing large groups of students.  Drama is taught as part of the curriculum in Year 9 English classes and is available as a GCSE and A Level subject.  Further studies in Theatre and Theatre-in-Education can be undertaken as part of the Sixth Form General Studies programme.

In recent years we have increased the number of events open to the public in the Queen’s Hall, and now we present a varied selection of professional theatre, dance, music and comedy events each season.   Local amateur groups such as Cranbrook Operatic Society (CODS) use the Queen’s Hall on a regular basis,  along with Showtimers who present an annual Christmas show.  Cranbrook Film Society present an eclectic season of innovative films here every year.
