Languages Key Stage 4/GCSE |
French, German and Spanish are all offered for GCSE and the Edexcel specifications are followed. Students are taught in mixed ability groups in German and Spanish but are setted in French. All students have to take at least one modern foreign language to GCSE level at Cranbrook School, although many choose to take two and some find that Latin combines well with one, or more, modern languages.
The 5 broad topics covered for GCSE (in all 3 languages) are: At Home and Abroad Education, Training and Employment House, Home and Daily Routine Media, Entertainment and Youth Culture Social Activities, Fitness and Health.
There are 2 terminal examination papers in the skills of listening and reading (40%). Speaking and Writing are assessed though controlled conditions coursework at the appropriate times throughout the course (60%).
Metro 4 Rouge is the text book used for French with Logo Rot being employed for German. In all cases those are enhanced with a wealth of appropriate resources and revision materials. Listos 3 is the Spanish course book used.
