Three ICT rooms are available to students throughout the day on an 'open access' basis which does not require staff supervision in order to maintain appropriate use.
In addition all six boarding houses have a wireless connection to the school network, allowing students to work in the evenings and weekends. This is shortly to be expanded in order to allow wireless hotspots within each house.
Recent improvements to the network include an extended topology in order to provide access points in every classroom. The network backbone has been upgraded to gigabit standards in order to streamline the delivery of data.
A further 10 interactive whiteboards have been installed during Spring Term 2005.
The school has a VLE which provides access to course materials and notes from home at all times. There is a high level of access during holidays and weekends. The VLE is managed and updated on a regular basis by subject specific administrators. They also control the dissemination of the information according to their subject.
From September 2005, each students user area upon the network will take the form of a personal website. This allows them to access their work at any time any from any online connection. This will also allow them to develop e-portfolios of work.
A wireless network enables staff and students to roam throughout the school. This is secured using 802.1X authentication to eliminate security concerns. This has been essential due to the disparate locations of many of the buildings on campus.
All members of staff possess a wireless laptop providing teachers with increased mobility, a direct link to the school database and student information.
A web based reporting system has been implemented which allows teachers to produce reports at their convenience. Following trials, this may also be available to parents in order to access their children's reports.
