In Year 9 pupils are taught once a week in either the Drama Studio in the Performing Arts Centre, or in the Queen's Hall. The Department recognises that our pupils come from a large range of different feeder schools. Therefore in the first month time is spent acclimatising the pupils to a wide variety of experiences in drama.
A Drama Audit is undertaken to ascertain pupils' interests in and experiences of drama. By half term in the Autumn Term all pupils are given a Baseline Assessment which is reported to Parents.
In the Spring Term the department amplifies and embellishes the work of the English Department who are preparing classes for the Shakespeare component of the SATs examination in May. Pupils look at the Shakespeare texts from the point of view of performance rather than literary study.
In the summer Term the pupils are given the opportunity to devise their own plays and work with texts. At the end of the year an End of Year Assessment is made and reported to Parents.
