AS & A2 Latin Dedicated Latinists can continue their studies in the 6th form. The Department offers a full Latin AS and A level from the OCR Classics suite of examinations. Set texts at AS are currently Cicero In Verrem lI and selections from Ovid Amores llI. At A2 students study Virgil Aeneid I and Tacitus Annals XIV. Students also further their language expertise. Examinations take place in June.
AS/A2 Classical Civilisation Classical Civilisation serves the need of students who are interested in Greek and Roman culture, but have no skills in the Latin language. All literature is studied in English! This is a very popular subject with a very high retention rate between AS to A2. We offer the full Classical Civilisation qualification from the OCR Classics suite. In Year 12 students study Homer’s Odyssey and Society and Greek Tragedy in its Context. Each module provides an insight into the culture, religion and politics of the ancient world. Year 13 students take two further modules in Epic and Comedy. All modules are examined in June.
