Classics

Currently over a quarter of Cranbrook students study a Classical subject.  We teach Latin throughout the school and Classical Civilisation as an A level in the 6th form.  Ancient Greek is offered off timetable. The Department takes students to Rome and the Bay of Naples every two years.  This trip is open to all year groups. Our next trip departs in April 2011.

The Classics Department aims to promote in its students an awareness of the structure of language and an understanding of human nature through the literature of the past. Our languages, political systems, science, art, architecture, philosophy, religion, literature and history all owe a debt to the ancient world and as a result many of our discussions of the classical texts are relevant to our modern world.

Mrs Danielle Fairey is Head of Department. She is assisted by Mr Robbie Ferguson and Mrs Elizabeth Aherne (part-time).
