Information Before Application We strongly recommend that parents ensure that they have looked around the school and if applicable a boarding house, before they make their application. Tours for boarding students take place on weekdays, preferably a Thursday, during school hours during term time. For day students we will have particular dates during the year when parents will be able to tour the school. Please contact 01580 711800 for details. indicating whether you are interested in a Day or Boarding place.
Who Can Apply? All applicants for Cranbrook School must hold either a UK or an EU passport, or have the right of abode in the UK.
Boarding applicants may live anywhere in the UK, or overseas. Day applicants may also apply from anywhere in the UK or overseas, but in recent years the oversubscription criteria have always had to be applied. Details of these criteria are given on the information sheets in the Admission Policies.
Preferred Area
We have had to modify our catchment area slightly to bring it in to line with KCC. They measure the distances electronically as the crow flies so we needed our old system, measuring by road, to be updated.
We have kept the traditional parishes.
The measurement of 8.5 km is slightly larger than the old area except for Water Lane, the other side of Frittenden, where a few houses that used to be inside catchment are now outside.
Letters have been hand delivered to all those houses advising the occupants of the change which comes about from September 2012. The letter explained that current occupants will all have the right to be considered inside catchment for the duration of their occupancy. When they sell the house or move, the new occupants will no longer be considered inside catchment.
An outline map of the area of first preference can be obtained from the school or downloaded here:
A definition of the preferred area is given in the admissions policy.
Year 9 entry Whether you are wishing to apply for a day or boarding place, application must be made either via the Kent County Council or the local education authority in which you reside if you live outside (of) the Kent area. If however you are based overseas then application will still be via Kent County Council.
To apply to KCC, please download the form attached below for either a day or boarding application. Complete the form and forward it to KCC at the address at the top of the form.
The deadline for registration with either KCC or your LEA is 31st October of the year prior to the September that you are looking for entry. Please note that KCC or your LEA will not provide registration forms for future years, only for the current intake year.
For boarding applications, we also request that you complete the Registration for Boarding Exam located below. Please complete and forward to the Registrar at Cranbrook School.
Entrance exams for boarding students for 2012 entry will take place on Saturday 26th November 2011. Entrance exams for day students for 2012 entry will take place on Saturday 4th February 2012.
Year 12 entry All applications must be made via www.kentchoices4u.com . If your child is not already a student at the school, please contact KCC for an unlock code in which to access the website. Please contact Tracey Crayford on 01622 694742 or e-mail

. Registration will commence at the end of October. Tracey will only be able to provide a user code and will not be able to answer any questions with regards to subject choices or courses available. For all current Year 11 students already at the school you will shortly be sent a letter from KCC which will provide you with details of your unlock code. This will then be able to be used when the registration period opens in October and not before.
Entrance to 6th form is subject to students achieving a minimum of 7Bs or above at GCSE.
Please be advised that we invariably have very few boarding spaces for year 12 entry. Those students who have the highest predicted grades will be invited for interview. For day students we normally have at least an additional 16 spaces available for external students wishing to join Cranbrook. Students with appropriate predicted grades will be invited for interview.
